Applications

The TEW-221PC is a late-1990s to early-2000s era 802.11b wireless card from the first generation of mainstream consumer Wi-Fi. IEEE 802.11b, standardized in 1999, operated on the 2.4 GHz band and delivered up to 11 Mbps — the dominant wireless standard before 802.11g (54 Mbps) superseded it around 2003. Cards like the TEW-221PC were widely used to add Wi-Fi to older laptops running Windows 98, Me, 2000, or XP that lacked built-in wireless. Today they see use in vintage laptop restoration, legacy OS setups, and retro computing projects where a CardBus slot is available and a period-correct wireless adapter is needed. The card is compatible with any laptop or notebook that has a standard PCMCIA Type II or CardBus slot.
