Applications
The Toshiba TRX-80 was designed for the large C-band home satellite dish market that was prominent in the United States during the 1980s and into the early 1990s. During this era, 6-to-10-foot dishes were commonly installed in residential and rural settings to receive unencrypted C-band satellite feeds directly from programming satellites. Receivers like the TRX-80 connected to the dish's LNB (low-noise block downconverter) and a motorized actuator to steer the dish across the Clarke Belt, allowing viewers to tune dozens of satellites and hundreds of transponders. The auto-tune, skew, and on-screen display features were premium capabilities at the time. The IPPV (impulse pay-per-view) and data output ports supported compatible subscription and pay-per-view service systems of the period. Today, TRX-80 units are sought by vintage home satellite enthusiasts, TVRO hobbyists, and collectors of early consumer satellite technology.
This Toshiba TRX-80 C-Band Satellite Receiver is in used condition and has not been powered up or tested at our facility, but it was pulled from a working environment where it was previously in use. The unit appears in good cosmetic shape overall based on our photos — the front panel and display area look clean with no obvious damage, and the rear connectors appear intact. Some light surface wear typical of used consumer electronics may be present. Please review all photos carefully and contact us with any questions before purchasing.
