Applications

The Toshiba SD-M1712 is a classic IDE/ATAPI DVD-ROM drive from the early 2000s, the dominant era of IDE optical drives before SATA interfaces became standard in desktop PCs around 2005–2007. Drives like this were standard equipment in desktop computers, workstations, and home-built PCs of the period, used for reading commercial DVD-Video discs, installing software from DVD or CD media, and accessing data discs. Today, the SD-M1712 is sought for replacing failed optical drives in older desktop systems, legacy workstations, and any machine with an IDE/ATAPI interface — including many industrial PCs, CNC controllers, and test equipment that still depend on IDE optical drives for software loading and data access. It is also a straightforward fit for retro PC builds and vintage computer restoration projects.

Condition: Used
This Toshiba SD-M1712 internal DVD-ROM drive has been tested and is in good working condition. The unit was manufactured in January 2004 and shows normal cosmetic wear consistent with prior use — the beige front bezel has light scuffing and handling marks typical of a removed desktop drive. The rear IDE and power connectors appear clean and undamaged. This is the drive only; no mounting screws, IDE cable, or software is included.
