Toshiba 400Adapt FDD Attachment Case 1.44MB External Floppy Drive Made in Japan

Toshiba 400Adapt FDD Attachment Case 1.44MB External Floppy Drive Made in Japan

The Toshiba 400Adapt is a portable external floppy disk drive housed in a slim, book-style attachment case designed for use with Toshiba laptop computers. It reads and writes standard 3.5-inch 1.44MB floppy disks and connects to the host laptop via a proprietary Toshiba multi-pin flat connector cable. As noted on the unit's label, this case is dedicated to floppy drive use only — it will not function with a CD-ROM drive module.

Applications

The Toshiba 400Adapt was produced in the 1990s as a companion accessory for Toshiba's line of slim and ultralight laptop computers — particularly models from the T-series and Portégé lines that omitted an internal floppy drive to reduce size and weight. At the time, floppy disks remained the primary medium for software distribution and file transfer, making an external drive essential for day-to-day use. Today these drives are still sought by users maintaining vintage Toshiba laptops, transferring files between older systems, and accessing legacy floppy-based software or data archives. The proprietary connector means compatibility is limited to Toshiba laptops with the matching port — buyers should verify their specific laptop model accepts this connector before purchasing.
