The Thermal Transfer 4F352 is a water-cooled, two-pass shell-and-tube hydraulic oil cooler built by Thermal Transfer Products Ltd. of Racine, Wisconsin. It uses copper tubes and aluminum fins to transfer heat from hydraulic oil to a cooling water circuit, and features the manufacturer's built-in Surge-Cushion® internal oil flow bypass relief valve — a pressure-relief device that protects the system against flow surges and prevents damage if pressure exceeds design limits. The unit is constructed for heavy industrial service and is rated for oil pressures up to 500 PSI and water pressures up to 150 PSI.

Applications
Water-cooled hydraulic oil coolers like the 4F352 are standard components in industrial hydraulic power units where air cooling is insufficient or impractical — for example, in injection molding machines, industrial presses, metal-forming equipment, CNC machine tool hydraulic circuits, and marine or stationary diesel-powered hydraulic systems. The cooler is plumbed into the hydraulic return line, where hot oil from the actuators passes through the shell side while plant cooling water or a chilled water circuit flows through the tube side, carrying away the heat generated by pumping and valve losses. The built-in Surge-Cushion® bypass relief valve is particularly valued in systems with variable flow, as it prevents over-pressurization of the cooler during high-demand cycles. The 10–50 GPM flow range and 20–56 HP heat-removal capacity make the 4F352 a mid-to-large capacity cooler suited for hydraulic systems typically in the 20–60 HP pump range. Rotating mounting brackets allow the end cap to be removed for tube inspection or cleaning without unbolting the cooler from its mount.
This Thermal Transfer 4F352 water-cooled hydraulic oil cooler has been inspected and appears to be in good used condition. The shell, end caps, and rotating mounting brackets show normal surface wear consistent with industrial service. The chrome water inlet fittings on top are clean and undamaged, and the NPT oil ports are intact. The manufacturer nameplate (serial GR4-12516) is present and fully legible. The unit has not been powered up or pressure-tested at our facility, but it was pulled from a working industrial environment where it was previously in service.
