The Tektronix 7D01 is a 16-channel logic analyzer plug-in module designed for use with Tektronix 7000-series oscilloscope mainframes. It works in tandem with the DF2 Display Formatter plug-in — both of which are included here — to capture, store, and display digital logic data in a variety of formats directly within the 7000-series instrument. The 7D01 handles data acquisition and the DF2 handles display formatting, together forming a complete logic analysis system within the mainframe chassis.

Applications

The Tektronix 7000-series plug-in system was the dominant modular instrument platform of the 1970s and early 1980s, allowing engineers to build customized test setups by mixing oscilloscope, logic analyzer, signal generator, and other plug-in modules in a single mainframe. The 7D01, introduced in that era, brought logic analysis capability into the 7000-series ecosystem — a significant convenience for digital hardware engineers who already owned a 7000-series scope. It was used in digital circuit design, microprocessor debug, bus analysis, and hardware verification work typical of that period. Today, 7D01/DF2 pairs are sought by engineers maintaining vintage computing or instrumentation systems, by collectors of classic Tektronix equipment, and by labs that still have operational 7000-series mainframes. The IEEE-488 (GPIB) output also allows integration with automated test systems. A working 7000-series mainframe with at least two compatible plug-in slots is required to use this unit.
