Description
Tektronix 5B10N Time Base Amplifier Plug-In for 5000 Series Oscilloscope
The Tektronix 5B10N is a Time Base/Amplifier plug-in module designed for the Tektronix 5000-series modular oscilloscope mainframes. It provides sweep time base functionality (Seconds/Div) along with an external amplifier mode (Volts/Div via EXT input), giving the host oscilloscope flexible horizontal and amplifier control in a single plug-in slot. The front panel features a multi-position rotary sweep selector, display mode switching, a full triggering section, and a BNC external input connector.

Applications
The Tektronix 5000-series was a modular oscilloscope platform introduced in the 1970s, built around a mainframe chassis that accepted interchangeable vertical amplifier and time base plug-in modules. This architecture let engineers customize their instrument for specific measurement tasks by swapping plug-ins rather than buying entirely new scopes. The 5B10N serves as the horizontal time base and amplifier plug-in, controlling sweep speed, triggering, and external amplifier input for the mainframe display. These plug-ins were widely used in electronics labs, R&D facilities, and universities through the 1970s and 1980s, and the 5000-series remains in use today by technicians maintaining vintage equipment and by collectors who value the modular flexibility. Replacement and spare plug-ins like the 5B10N are sought after by owners of 5110, 5440, and related 5-series mainframes.
This Tektronix 5B10N Time Base/Amplifier oscilloscope plug-in has been visually inspected and appears to be in good used condition. The front panel controls, knobs, and pushbuttons all look intact with no obvious damage. The unit shows the kind of light surface wear and minor scuffing typical of used lab equipment. The gold edge connector fingers on the rear are present and appear clean. This plug-in has not been powered up or tested at our facility, but it came from a working environment where it was previously in use.
