Description
Tektronix 224 60MHz 2-Ch Handheld Digital Storage Oscilloscope w/ P850 Probes
The Tektronix 224 is a 60MHz two-channel handheld digital storage oscilloscope designed for portable field and bench use. It combines a compact, battery-capable form factor with a real-time LCD display and digital waveform storage, making it well suited for work outside the lab where a standard benchtop instrument isn't practical. The front panel provides direct access to vertical, trigger, and timebase controls, while the top keypad covers waveform save/recall, acquisition mode, and display functions.

Applications
The Tektronix 224 was introduced in the early 1980s as one of the first truly portable handheld digital storage oscilloscopes, and it represented a significant step in field-service instrumentation. Its combination of battery operation, solar charging, and a built-in storage scope in a rugged carry-anywhere package made it popular with field engineers, military electronics technicians, and industrial maintenance crews who needed waveform capture away from a powered bench. The RS-232 COMM port allows waveform data transfer to a host computer, a feature that was forward-looking for its era. Today, units like the 224 are still used for vintage electronics servicing, educational purposes, and by collectors of classic Tektronix instruments. It works well for general-purpose signal verification, audio and low-frequency RF work, power electronics troubleshooting, and any application where portability matters more than high bandwidth.
This Tektronix 224 60MHz Handheld Digital Storage Oscilloscope has cosmetic damage to the front face of the unit — visible scuffing and wear on the bezel/faceplate area, as shown in the photos. The rest of the housing appears intact and the screen is functional as shown in the display photos. The unit comes with two Tektronix P850 10X oscilloscope probes and the zippered carry bag. It was pulled from a working environment where it had been previously in use but has not been bench-tested at our facility.
