The Ci Designs Ci 1000 is a desktop external SCSI drive enclosure designed to house internal SCSI hard drives or optical drives externally, connecting to a host system via a 50-pin SCSI interface. The enclosure includes an internal SNP-7043-1 AC/DC switching power supply that provides both +5 VDC and +12 VDC rails for powering a SCSI drive. The unit has been confirmed to power on at our facility — the internal fan runs and both supply voltages are present at the 4-pin Molex connector. No drive is included.

Applications
External SCSI enclosures like the Ci 1000 were widely used from the late 1980s through the mid-1990s to expand storage on workstations, Mac systems, and PC-compatible computers equipped with SCSI host adapter cards. They allowed users to add hard drives, CD-ROM drives, tape drives, or other SCSI peripherals without opening the host computer. The 50-pin Centronics SCSI connector (also called SCSI-1 or narrow SCSI) was the dominant standard of this era, used on everything from Sun workstations to early Macintosh systems and IBM PC-compatibles running SCSI controllers. The dual rear SCSI connectors support daisy-chaining multiple devices on the same SCSI bus, a standard topology of the period. These enclosures remain useful today for anyone maintaining legacy SCSI-equipped systems, accessing older SCSI hard drives, or building a vintage computing setup.
This Ci Designs Ci 1000 50-Pin SCSI External Drive Enclosure has been inspected and powers on: the internal fan runs and both +5 VDC and +12 VDC are confirmed at the 4-pin Molex connector. The front drive cover plate is not included — it was removed at some point to accommodate a CD-ROM drive and is no longer with the unit, leaving that bay open. The enclosure shows typical wear for its age: light scuffing and grime on the top and front panels. The rear dual 50-pin SCSI Centronics connectors and IEC power inlet are intact. The SNP-7043-1 internal power supply is included and functional. No drive is included. Please note that we have had multiple units in stock and the unit shipped may vary slightly from the unit photographed, but will be functionally equivalent.
