The Supra FAXModem 144 LC is an external desktop modem capable of 14,400 bps data transmission and 14,400 bps fax operation over standard analog telephone lines. It connects to a host computer via a DB-25 RS-232 serial port and uses a Hayes-compatible AT command set, making it broadly compatible with DOS, Windows, and Macintosh systems of its era. The front panel carries a full row of LED status indicators so the user can monitor line and modem activity at a glance.

Applications
The Supra FAXModem 144 LC dates from the early-to-mid 1990s, when 14,400 bps was the mainstream standard for dial-up data and fax communication. At the time, V.32bis was the dominant ITU data standard and V.42bis compression effectively doubled throughput on compressible data, making 14.4K modems the workhorse of bulletin board systems (BBS), early internet access via ISP dial-up, and PC faxing. The dual RJ-11 connectors allow the modem to share a phone line with a handset, and the Mac-specific factory reset command (AT&F1) on the top label reflects Supra's active marketing to both PC and Apple Macintosh users. Today these modems are sought by vintage computing enthusiasts, BBS hobbyists, and collectors restoring period-accurate DOS and early Windows or System 7 Macintosh setups. They also remain functional for any application requiring a serial RS-232 dial-up connection over POTS lines — such as legacy alarm panels, industrial dial-up data loggers, or fax archiving systems — where a compatible analog line is still available.
This Supra FAXModem 144 LC external fax modem has been inspected and appears to be in good used condition. The aluminum housing shows light surface scuffs consistent with normal use and age, and the front-panel LED indicators and labeling are intact and legible. It has not been powered up or tested at our facility, but was pulled from a working environment where it was previously in use.
