Applications

Sun Microsystems produced a range of plug-in expansion cards for its SPARCstation and other SBus-based workstation lines throughout the late 1980s and 1990s. The SBus architecture was Sun's proprietary high-speed expansion bus, and serial cards like the 270-1932-02 were used to add or replace RS-232 serial ports for connecting terminals, modems, plotters, instrumentation, and other serial peripherals. RS-232 serial connectivity was essential in Unix workstation environments of this era for device management, console access, and peripheral communication. Today these cards are sought by engineers and collectors maintaining legacy Sun SPARCstation systems, as well as those running OpenBoot/Solaris environments that require specific Sun-branded serial hardware.
