Applications
The Sun 3/60 was a Motorola 68020-based UNIX workstation introduced by Sun Microsystems in 1987, aimed at scientific, engineering, and academic computing. It ran SunOS and was designed for use with Sun's proprietary VMEbus-based expansion architecture. The Sun 3 series represented Sun's first commercially successful workstation line and helped establish SPARC and RISC computing as the follow-on standard. Today, Sun 3/60 chassis are sought by vintage computer collectors and restorers working to reassemble or preserve these early UNIX workstations. This case and power supply assembly is useful for restorations where the chassis has been damaged or discarded, or as a donor unit for the internal power supply.
