The PEX780-30 is a hot-swap power supply module designed for Sun Microsystems server and workstation platforms that use a modular, tool-free power subsystem. Hot-swap power supplies are standard in enterprise-class rackmount and tower servers where uptime is critical — they allow a failed or degrading PSU to be swapped out while the system continues running, provided a second supply is present and carrying the load. Sun Microsystems (later acquired by Oracle) built this style of modular PSU into many of their mid-range and high-end workstation and server lines from the late 1990s through the mid-2000s.
