Applications

The Apple PowerBook 520C was part of Apple's PowerBook 500 series, introduced in 1994 and built around the Motorola 68LC040 processor. These machines used a proprietary memory expansion format rather than standard SO-DIMMs, meaning upgrades required modules specifically designed for the 500-series slot — such as this Spectrum Engineering DT213. Memory upgrades were a common and practical enhancement for PowerBook 500-series owners, as the base configurations shipped with limited RAM that could bottleneck performance under System 7. Today, working examples of the PowerBook 520C and 540C are sought by vintage Apple collectors and hobbyists keeping these machines operational, making compatible memory modules like this increasingly scarce.
