Applications
The 3.5-inch 1.44MB floppy drive was the dominant removable storage format in PCs and workstations through the late 1980s and 1990s, and remained a standard feature in IBM-compatible desktops well into the 2000s. The MPF520-D was used across a wide range of IBM desktop and workstation systems, including IBM PS/2, Aptiva, IntelliStation, and compatible platforms. Today these drives are still sought for legacy system maintenance, BIOS flashing on older hardware, CNC machine controllers, industrial automation equipment, and embedded systems that require a floppy interface for firmware updates or data transfer. The bare (bezel-less) configuration suits replacements in chassis where the original bezel is retained or where a custom panel is used.
