Description

Sony CDU561-10 2x SCSI Internal CD-ROM Drive Half-Height 5.25in 1993

The Sony CDU561-10 is a half-height 5.25-inch internal CD-ROM drive with a SCSI interface, manufactured in July 1993 at Sony's ASCO Togane facility in Japan. It runs at 2x speed and connects via a 50-pin SCSI ribbon cable, making it compatible with SCSI host adapters common in workstations and servers of the early-to-mid 1990s. The drive carries TUV, UL, FCC, and CSA certifications and requires 5V and 12V DC power.

Applications

The CDU561-10 dates from the early SCSI CD-ROM era of the late 1980s through mid-1990s, when SCSI was the dominant interface for high-performance optical storage in workstations and desktop PCs. Drives like this were commonly paired with SCSI host adapters such as the Adaptec AHA-1542 or similar cards in platforms including Apple Macintosh, Silicon Graphics workstations, Sun Microsystems SPARCstations, and high-end IBM-compatible PCs running DOS, early Windows, and Unix variants. Today the CDU561-10 is sought by vintage computing enthusiasts restoring period-correct systems, as well as collectors maintaining early CD-ROM-era hardware in working order. It is compatible with any system equipped with a 50-pin narrow SCSI host adapter and a standard 5.25-inch half-height drive bay.

Condition: Used
This Sony CDU561-10 2x SCSI Internal CD-ROM Drive has been pulled from a working environment where it was previously in service. It has been visually inspected and shows normal cosmetic wear consistent with used equipment — the beige front housing shows light surface scuffing and age-related discoloration typical of 1990s hardware. The rear SCSI interface connector and DC power input appear intact. The drive has not been powered up or tested at our facility. Please view our photo set and contact us if you have any questions.
