The Sony CCU-M5 is a rack-mount camera control unit designed for use with Sony's DXC series professional video cameras. Applications
The CCU-M5 is part of Sony's broadcast and industrial video production ecosystem from the late 1980s to early 1990s, when the DXC series represented Sony's professional 3-CCD color camera lineup used in television studios, live production, and industrial video applications. In a typical setup, the CCU connects to a compatible DXC camera via a multi-pin camera cable, carrying power, control data, and video signals between the camera head and the control unit. The operator at the CCU can then make real-time adjustments to iris, gain, white balance, and other image parameters without touching the camera — a standard workflow in multi-camera studio and live event production. Units like the CCU-M5 are still sought after by operators maintaining legacy DXC-based systems, by educational and community television facilities that built out on Sony's DXC platform, and by collectors of professional broadcast equipment from this era.
This Sony CCU-M5 Camera Control Unit powers on and the green Panel Active indicator light blinks, confirming it receives power and initializes. We were unable to test it further with a compatible DXC series camera, so full functionality beyond power-up has not been verified at our facility. The chassis is in good cosmetic shape with normal wear for broadcast equipment of this age — no significant dents, cracks, or damage visible.
