The Sonos ZP80 ZonePlayer is a dedicated network audio streaming component designed for Sonos whole-home music systems. It connects to your existing stereo or home theater receiver via analog RCA or digital audio outputs, turning any audio system into a Sonos zone. The ZP80 communicates with other ZonePlayers over Sonos's proprietary SonosNet wireless mesh or via wired Ethernet, and is controlled through the Sonos app or a Sonos controller.

Applications

The Sonos ZP80 was designed for use within Sonos's multi-room audio ecosystem, acting as a bridge between the Sonos network and a traditional amplified audio system. It is the right component when you want Sonos streaming in a room that already has a receiver or amplifier — the ZP80 feeds the audio signal out digitally or via analog RCA while your existing amp drives the speakers. It was released in the mid-2000s as part of Sonos's first-generation ZonePlayer lineup, alongside the self-amplified ZP100. These early ZonePlayers were notable for introducing a reliable, app-controlled whole-home audio concept that has since become the standard for residential audio distribution.
