The Somaca 106E-24RP is a floor-standing wet abrasive belt sander built for precision edge finishing and surface sanding of glass, stone, and metal. It uses an industry-standard 4" x 106" (102 mm x 2690 mm) abrasive belt running over a roller platen, with integrated water cooling to lubricate the belt and control heat during grinding. Somaca (Sommer and Maca Industries, also marketed as Sommer & Maca) was later acquired by C.R. Laurence Co., Inc. (CRL), which replaced this model with the CRL 2200RP.

Applications

Wet abrasive belt sanders of this type are standard equipment in glass fabrication shops, mirror and plate glass processing, stone finishing, and precision metalworking. The roller platen configuration allows curved or contoured surfaces to be sanded and finished, making it particularly suited for edge polishing on glass panels, architectural glass, and stone countertop edges. Water cooling supplied through the integrated tank keeps the abrasive belt lubricated and the workpiece cool, extending belt life and preventing heat cracking on glass. The 4" x 106" belt format became a de facto industry standard in commercial glass and stone shops, and Sommer and Maca machines were widely used in professional glazing and fabrication facilities from the mid-20th century through the 1990s. CRL (C.R. Laurence) acquired Somaca and continued the product line under the CRL 2200RP designation, confirming the broad adoption of this format in the trade.
