The SoloPower SP1-90 is a 90-watt flexible thin film solar panel using CIGS (Copper Indium Gallium Selenide) photovoltaic technology. At just 4.6 lbs and 0.1 inches thick, the SP1-90 is designed for low-slope and rooftop applications where a rigid framed panel is impractical. These panels came directly from SoloPower's QC department at their San Jose, California manufacturing facility and have been tested to output voltage.

Applications

CIGS thin film solar panels like the SP1-90 are used in applications where the low weight and flexibility of the panel matter — commercial low-slope rooftops, metal standing-seam roofs, and building-integrated photovoltaic (BIPV) installations where a conventional rigid glass panel cannot be used. CIGS technology, which uses a copper-indium-gallium-selenide absorber layer deposited on a flexible substrate, has better performance than standard crystalline silicon in diffuse or partially shaded light conditions. SoloPower manufactured the SP1 series at their San Jose facility in the early 2010s, targeting commercial and industrial rooftop markets where installation speed and low structural loading were priorities. At 24V nominal, the SP1-90 is compatible with standard 24V battery charge systems and most grid-tie and off-grid inverter inputs. The panel's narrow, elongated profile (86.5 inches long, 15.7 inches wide) reflects its design for installation along roof standing seams or in building-integrated arrays. These are uncommon in the secondary market and represent a distinctive flexible thin film technology from a short-lived but innovative U.S. solar manufacturer.
