Applications

CIGS (Copper Indium Gallium Selenide) thin-film solar cells are a class of flexible photovoltaic technology developed as a lightweight, bendable alternative to rigid crystalline silicon panels. Nanosolar and SoloPower were among the pioneering U.S. manufacturers of roll-to-roll printed CIGS cells in the late 2000s and early 2010s, producing cells on flexible metal foil substrates capable of being integrated into curved surfaces, backpacks, portable chargers, unmanned aerial vehicles, and building-integrated photovoltaic (BIPV) applications. These cells are well suited to DIY solar projects, experimental wiring configurations, educational demonstrations, and small-scale power generation prototypes where flexibility and low mass are priorities. Hobbyists and engineers commonly use sample packs like this to test cell output characteristics, experiment with series/parallel wiring, and determine which cell format best fits their application before purchasing in larger quantities.
