Applications
The Cerec system, developed by Siemens and later continued under the Sirona brand, was the first commercially successful chairside dental CAD/CAM system and became the global standard for single-visit ceramic restorations. Introduced in the late 1980s and refined through the Cerec 2 generation (released 1994), it allowed dentists to optically scan a prepared tooth, design the restoration on-screen, and mill it from a ceramic block — all within a single patient. The Cerec 2 represented a significant step forward over the original Cerec 1, offering improved optical impression accuracy, a faster milling unit, and expanded restoration geometry capabilities. These systems remain in use at some practices and are also sought by dental schools, training centers, and collectors of early dental CAD/CAM technology. The platform used Vita and compatible ceramic blocks and was designed for integration into general and restorative dental practices.
This Siemens Sirona Cerec 2 Dental Crown Inlay Milling Machine is a low-use lease return that was inspected and confirmed to be in good condition by Patterson Dental at the time of deinstallation from a dental office. The unit shows normal cosmetic wear consistent with dental office use. The milling chamber interior is visible in photos and shows normal residue from use; the cart, CRT monitor, and housing appear clean and intact.
