Applications
The SBS Y8373950 is a late-1990s/early-2000s industrial single-board computer system designed for automation, process control, data acquisition, and other mission-critical industrial computing environments. SBS Technologies (later part of Kontron) built these passive-backplane rackmount systems specifically for industrial and defense applications where long-term component availability, high slot count, and ISA bus compatibility were requirements — unlike conventional servers of the same era that had already moved away from ISA. The large backplane (12 PCI + 8 ISA) allowed integrators to populate the system with custom I/O cards, SCSI controllers, serial cards, motion control boards, and similar specialized hardware. These systems were commonly deployed in factory automation, test-and-measurement racks, machine control enclosures, and telecommunications equipment rooms. The ISA bus support made the platform backward-compatible with a wide range of industrial I/O hardware that was still ISA-based well into the 2000s. Today they are sought by legacy system maintainers and industrial facilities that need to service or replicate an original configuration.
This SBS Y8373950 industrial rackmount PC was pulled from a working operational environment where it was previously in use. It has been visually inspected and photographed. All three Seagate SCSI hard drive trays are present and loaded with drives. The floppy drive and DVD/CD-RW combo drive are visible and appear complete. The chassis shows the kind of cosmetic wear you'd expect on equipment that's seen industrial use — some scuffing on the black panels and minor surface wear, but no major damage is apparent.
