Applications
The SM-348 is a mid-2000s IDE/ATAPI optical combo drive of the type widely used in desktop PCs during the period when IDE was the dominant storage interface before SATA took over. These drives handled both CD burning and DVD playback in a single bay, making them a cost-effective choice for desktops built between roughly 2001 and 2006. The SM-348 is confirmed compatible with the Dell Optiplex GX270 and is a suitable replacement for other IDE-based desktop systems from the same era, including many HP, Compaq, and generic ATX tower builds that used a 5.25-inch half-height bay and a standard 40-pin IDE connector. Today these drives are primarily used as spare or replacement parts for legacy systems still in service, retro PC builds, and older embedded computing platforms that require IDE optical drives.
This Samsung SM-348 internal CD-RW/DVD combo drive has been visually inspected and appears to be in good used condition. The existing description notes it as compatible with the Dell Optiplex GX270. The drive shows normal cosmetic wear consistent with previous use, including light scuffing on the top of the chassis and label. The black bezel and tray mechanism appear intact with no cracks or missing parts visible. It has not been powered up or tested at our facility, but it was pulled from a working environment where it was previously in use. Please view our photo set and contact us if you have any questions.
