Applications

DDR PC3200 (DDR400) 184-pin DIMMs were the dominant desktop memory standard from roughly 2003 through 2006, used in systems built around Intel Pentium 4, Pentium D, Celeron D, and AMD Athlon 64 / Sempron processors on platforms such as Intel 865, 875, 915, and 925 chipsets and AMD Socket 754/939/940 boards. PC3200 was the fastest widely-adopted DDR1 speed grade, replacing PC2700 and PC2100 in mainstream builds of that era. These modules remain in use today for maintaining, repairing, or upgrading legacy desktop systems from the mid-2000s that cannot accept DDR2 or later. A 512MB module is a practical upgrade or replacement for systems that shipped with 256MB, bringing total system RAM up to the 1–2GB range common for Windows XP and early Vista workloads. Samsung-branded DDR is well regarded in the legacy market for its reliability and compatibility across a broad range of 184-pin DDR chipsets.
