Description

Reichert Microtome Glass Knives Blades 23pc Electron Microscopy Thin Sections

This listing is for one box of 23 Reichert microtome glass knives used for preparing thin sections in both light microscopy and electron microscopy (TEM/SEM). Glass knives are made by fracturing glass strips at a precise angle to produce a razor-sharp cutting edge capable of slicing biological and material specimens into ultrathin sections — typically 50–100 nm for electron microscopy and somewhat thicker for light microscopy. Each knife in this lot has the characteristic triangular cross-section profile, with the fresh cutting edge at the apex.

Specifications & What's Included

  • Brand: Reichert
  • Type: Microtome glass knives / blades
  • Quantity: 23 glass knives per box

Applications

Glass knives are a standard consumable in biological electron microscopy sample preparation. They are used on ultramicrotomes to cut resin-embedded specimens into ultrathin sections (typically 50–100 nm thick) that are collected on TEM grids for transmission electron microscopy. Slightly thicker sections cut with glass knives are also used on semi-thin preparations for light microscopy to survey tissue blocks before trimming to a region of interest. Reichert (now part of Leica Microsystems) was a major manufacturer of precision microtomes and associated consumables for decades, and their glass knives were widely used in pathology, cell biology, and materials science labs. While diamond knives have largely replaced glass for routine TEM work in many facilities, glass knives remain in use for their low cost and accessibility, particularly for survey sections and in labs that still operate Reichert-era ultramicrotomes.

Condition: Used
This box of 23 Reichert microtome glass knives is in used condition and has been visually inspected. The knives show typical handling and storage wear consistent with lab use — light surface marks are visible on some blades, as seen in the photos. All 23 knives are present and intact. Because glass knives are a precision cutting consumable, buyers should review all photos closely to assess suitability before purchasing. Please view our photo set and contact us if you have any questions.
