Applications
The Realistic 999B is a consumer-grade open-reel tape deck from the late 1960s to early 1970s, produced during the height of the reel-to-reel format's popularity in home audio. Open-reel tape decks like the 999B were used for high-fidelity home recording and playback before the compact cassette overtook them in the mid-1970s. The 3-head design lets the user monitor the recorded signal off the tape in real time — a feature valued by serious recordists then and now. Today these decks are sought after by vintage audio enthusiasts, collectors, and anyone working with legacy open-reel tape archives. The 999B connects to an external stereo system via its preamp outputs, and can also record from an auxiliary source such as a turntable or tuner. The built-in speaker provides basic monitoring without external amplification.
This Realistic 999B 3-Head 3-Speed Stereo Reel to Reel Tape Deck has been tested by our technician and is in good working order. The walnut cabinet shows normal wear consistent with its age, and the front panel controls and transport mechanisms are functional. Please view our photo set and contact us if you have any questions.
