The Promptus HotLink OA-100-3U is an ISDN inverse multiplexer (IMUX) from Promptus Communications' Oasis 100 / HotLink product line. Applications
ISDN inverse multiplexers like the Promptus HotLink OA-100-3U were widely deployed in the 1990s and early 2000s to bond multiple ISDN BRI lines for higher-speed WAN connectivity before broadband became widely available. By aggregating two or three BRI channels (each carrying 128 Kbps), the IMUX could deliver 256–384 Kbps of bonded bandwidth over standard ISDN infrastructure — used for videoconferencing, file transfer, and remote LAN access at sites where T1 or DSL was unavailable or cost-prohibitive. The RS-449 DTE interface allowed the unit to connect directly to routers, video codecs, or other serial WAN equipment. The OA-100-3U was targeted at enterprise branch offices, telecom carriers, and service providers requiring flexible, dial-on-demand WAN aggregation over the public switched telephone network (PSTN). This technology has largely been superseded by broadband and fiber WAN services, making surviving units of interest primarily for legacy network maintenance, lab testing, or ISDN-era telecommunications research.
This Promptus HotLink OA-100-3U ISDN Inverse Multiplexer has been inspected and appears to be in good used condition. It was pulled from a working environment where it was previously in service.
