Description

Pittman 9236C185-R3 DC Motor Encoder 30.3V 512 CPR Gear Belt Drive Exabyte Board

This is a Pittman 9236C185-R3 30.3V DC motor encoder assembly paired with an Exabyte Tape Library drive board. The bundle includes the Pittman motor with its 512 CPR optical encoder, a black anodized aluminum gear frame with belt drive and two gears, and an Exabyte Corp SMD drive board with connection wires — all pulled together as a working transport assembly from an Exabyte tape library system.

Applications

The Pittman 9236C185-R3 is a precision DC servo motor with an integrated optical encoder, designed for use in automated tape library systems where accurate, repeatable positioning is critical. In an Exabyte tape library, this motor drives the cartridge picker or transport robot mechanism — moving tape cartridges between storage slots and drives with the precision the 512 CPR encoder provides for closed-loop position feedback. Exabyte tape libraries from the mid-1990s (the 8mm Mammoth and EXB series systems) relied on these belt-drive motor assemblies to handle cartridge robotics. This type of assembly is sought as a replacement part for Exabyte library repair and maintenance, and Pittman DC servo motors of this era are also used in a wide range of other precision automation, medical, and instrumentation applications where a compact, high-resolution encoder motor with a gear reduction stage is needed.

Condition: Used
This Pittman 9236C185-R3 30.3V DC Motor Encoder and gear belt drive assembly was pulled from an unused Exabyte Tape Library. The motor has been tested and confirmed to be in good working order. The Exabyte SMD drive board included with this bundle has not been bench-tested. Both components show typical wear consistent with light storage; the motor body has some surface patina and the gear frame shows minor handling marks.
