Applications
The Pfeiffer Balzers DUO series is a line of compact two-stage rotary vane pumps widely used as roughing pumps and fore-vacuum pumps in scientific and industrial vacuum systems. They are standard equipment in a range of applications including thin-film deposition (PVD/CVD), vacuum furnaces, freeze dryers, mass spectrometers, electron microscopes, and general laboratory vacuum lines. The DUO 1.5A is one of the smaller models in the series, making it well-suited for benchtop systems and instruments that require a clean, low-vibration fore-vacuum source. Pfeiffer Balzers (now trading as Pfeiffer Vacuum) has manufactured the DUO series since the mid-20th century; the magnetic coupling design — which eliminates the conventional shaft seal and the oil leaks associated with it — became a distinguishing feature of the line. This unit's 220V / 50–60 Hz rating and AEG motor suggest manufacture in Germany for European or universal-voltage markets, consistent with Pfeiffer Balzers production from the 1980s through the 1990s.
This Pfeiffer Balzers DUO 1.5A Rotary Vane Vacuum Pump was removed from a working environment where it had been in active service. It has not been powered up or tested at our facility. Visually, the pump is in good condition overall — the housing shows minor scuffs and scrapes consistent with normal lab use, as visible in our photos.
