The OnStream SC30e is a 30GB external tape drive using OnStream's ADR (Advanced Digital Recording) technology, connecting to a host system via SCSI. The SC30e was OnStream's consumer and SOHO-market external drive in the early 2000s, housed in a compact desktop enclosure with a distinctive silver aluminum-look shell and tilt stand. It draws power from an external brick adapter rather than the host computer's internal power bus.

Applications
The OnStream SC30e was designed for desktop backup in small office and home office (SOHO) environments during the late 1990s and early 2000s, when 30GB represented substantial capacity for workstation-level data protection. OnStream's ADR format used a linear serpentine recording method across 8 parallel tracks, allowing high-density storage on standard ADR cartridges. The SC30e connected via SCSI and required a SCSI host adapter card in the host PC — common in workstations of the era running Windows NT, 2000, or early Linux distributions. These drives are sought today primarily for legacy data recovery: if you have a collection of ADR-30 tapes from this period, the SC30e remains one of the few ways to read them. OnStream later went out of business, making working units increasingly scarce.
This OnStream SC30e 30GB External SCSI Tape Drive was pulled from a working environment where it was previously in use. It has not been powered up or tested at our facility. The unit appears to be in good cosmetic condition with the silver enclosure showing light surface wear typical of used equipment. The Anoma Electric UC0512-2510 external power supply is included.
