The Octel VMX200 is a standalone voice messaging platform manufactured by VMX Inc. of San Jose, California. This floor-standing tower cabinet houses a 10-slot card cage (slots A1–A10) populated with multiple voice processing and telephony interface cards, a lower drive bay section, an internal AC power supply module, and dual rear cooling fans. It connects to PBX telephone systems via the rear DB25 telephone line ports.

Applications
The Octel VMX200 is a voice mail and automated attendant system designed to integrate with PBX telephone switches in corporate, institutional, and enterprise environments. VMX Inc. produced the VMX platform in the 1980s and early 1990s as a dedicated voice processing appliance; Octel Communications later acquired VMX Inc. and continued supporting the VMX product line under the Octel brand. These systems were widely deployed in mid-size to large businesses to provide voicemail boxes, call routing, and automated attendant functions for internal PBX users. The VMX200 card-based architecture allowed the system to scale port capacity by adding or reconfiguring telephony interface cards in the card cage. Today this equipment is primarily of interest to organizations maintaining legacy Octel/VMX installations, system integrators supporting older PBX infrastructure, and collectors of vintage enterprise telecommunications hardware.
This Octel VMX200 voicemail system has been inspected and appears to be in good condition. The cabinet, card cage, and installed cards show normal wear consistent with previous service use. All populated card slots (A1–A10) appear intact, and the included 210MB hard drive (P/N 740-6504-001) and 1.44MB 3.5" floppy drive are present in the lower bays. The AC power supply module is installed and in place. The rear panel connectors and bundled telephone port cables (P1–P7) appear undamaged.
