Description
Nortel BayStack 450-12T AL2012A15 12-Port 10/100 Switch 400-2FX 100BASE-FX MDA
The Nortel Networks BayStack 450-12T is a managed Fast Ethernet switch providing 12 auto-sensing 10/100BASE-TX RJ45 ports in a compact 1U rackmount chassis. This unit includes the 400-2FX Media Dependent Adapter (MDA) — the Chameleon Fiver MDA (P119389-AR15 / 119398-A) — which adds two 100BASE-FX fiber uplink ports via SC connectors, extending the switch's connectivity to fiber backbone segments. A DB9 console/comm port on the front provides out-of-band management access.

Applications
The BayStack 450 series was Nortel Networks' workgroup-class managed Fast Ethernet switching line from the late 1990s and early 2000s, designed for enterprise edge and wiring-closet deployments. The 450-12T targets smaller wiring closets or workgroups needing 12 copper 10/100 ports with optional fiber uplinks to a distribution-layer switch or fiber backbone — a common architecture in campus networks of that era. The 400-2FX MDA fiber module makes this unit particularly useful in environments where the uplink run to the core switch exceeds copper distance limits or where fiber isolation is required. BayStack 450-series switches were widely deployed in education, government, and enterprise campus networks running Nortel's Bay Networks software stack. Today these switches remain useful for legacy network lab work, spare-parts inventory for existing BayStack deployments, and light-duty small-office or isolated-segment networking where managed 10/100 Fast Ethernet is sufficient.
This Nortel Networks BayStack 450-12T switch (model AL2012A15) has been inspected and is in good used condition. The 400-2FX MDA fiber expansion module (P119389-AR15) is installed. The front panel, RJ45 port bay, and fiber module all appear clean and intact. A minor surface mark is visible on the housing above the port bay, and there is typical light wear consistent with previous rack deployment.
