Description
Network Systems FL2000-HP/HB Fiber Link P/N 441947-01 100/115V HYPERchannel
The Network Systems FL2000-HP/HB is a fiber optic data link unit built for HYPERchannel high-speed local area networks. It bridges parallel channel-attached host adapters over fiber optic cable, extending HYPERchannel segments beyond the distances possible with copper coax. The front panel carries a row of LED status indicators (Cmd, Srv, Set, Opt, Sel, Sup, and PWR) and a power switch, giving operators a quick visual read on link and channel status.

Applications
Network Systems Corporation (NSC) developed HYPERchannel in the late 1970s and through the 1980s as one of the first high-speed local area networking technologies aimed at mainframe and minicomputer environments. HYPERchannel operated at up to 50 Mbps over coaxial cable and was widely used to interconnect IBM mainframes, DEC VAX systems, and other large hosts in data centers where speed and reliability over short distances were critical. The FL2000 Fiber Link extended that architecture by replacing the coaxial backbone segment with fiber optic cable, allowing data centers to span greater distances and reduce electrical interference between buildings or across large computer rooms. Units like the FL2000-HP/HB are now sought by legacy data center historians, computer museums, and facilities that still operate or preserve HYPERchannel-attached mainframe systems from that era. The HP/HB suffix denotes compatibility with both the HP (host port) and HB (host bus) adapter variants used in NSC HYPERchannel configurations.
This Network Systems FL2000-HP/HB Fiber Link has been inspected and is in good used condition. The unit is cosmetically intact with the typical light surface wear you'd expect from equipment of this age — the front panel shows some scuffing around the controls, visible in the photos. The rear parallel connectors (TAG OUT and BUS OUT) and optical ports appear clean and undamaged. The unit powers via a standard 100/115V AC connection with a slow-blow fuse.
