Applications
Benchtop vacuum ovens like the Napco 5831 are standard equipment in chemistry, materials science, electronics, and pharmaceutical laboratories. They are used for drying and desiccating heat-sensitive or moisture-sensitive samples under reduced pressure, which lowers the boiling point of solvents and allows drying at temperatures far below what a conventional oven would require. Common applications include removing residual solvents from polymer or resin samples, degassing adhesives and epoxies before cure, drying electronic components and circuit boards without oxidation risk, and outgassing porous materials or coatings. The Precision Scientific 5831 series was a widely used mid-range vacuum oven in American research and industrial labs from the 1980s through the 1990s, valued for its straightforward controls and compact benchtop footprint. These ovens are connected to an external vacuum pump (not included) via the top-mounted fittings; the needle valves allow the operator to control vacuum draw-down and vent the chamber safely.
This Napco Precision Scientific 5831-120 Vacuum Oven has been visually inspected and photographed. It was pulled from a working laboratory environment where it was previously in use. The unit shows normal cosmetic wear consistent with used lab equipment — the exterior cabinet has minor scuffing and handling marks typical for its age. The interior stainless steel chamber appears clean with no obvious damage, and the red silicone door seal is intact. The vacuum gauge, valve fittings, and vacuum tubing are all present. The unit includes a VWR 33600-052 Double-Safe glass thermometer. It has not been powered up or tested at our facility. Please view our photo set and contact us if you have any questions.
