Systems of this type were widely deployed in the 1990s and early 2000s for dial-up internet service providers, bulletin board systems (BBS), corporate remote access servers, and enterprise modem pools where dozens or hundreds of simultaneous analog dial-up connections needed to be managed centrally. Each MT1432MR module added three PSTN-connected modem ports to the chassis, allowing administrators to scale capacity by adding or swapping module boards.
