The Mitsumi D503V is a 360KB double-density 5.25-inch half-height floppy disk drive manufactured by Mitsumi Electric Co., Ltd. and marketed under the Newtronics brand. It reads and writes standard 360KB double-density (DD) floppy disks using a 34-pin flat ribbon cable interface and operates on standard PC dual-voltage (5V/12V) power. Applications
The 5.25-inch 360KB half-height floppy drive was the standard storage peripheral for IBM PC and PC/XT-class computers from the early to mid-1980s. The D503V is compatible with IBM PC, PC/XT, and PC/AT systems as well as the broad range of IBM-compatible clones from that era — including machines from Compaq, Tandy, Zenith, and numerous other manufacturers that used the same 34-pin floppy interface and dual-voltage power supply. These drives were manufactured in Japan by Mitsumi and sold under the Newtronics label, a common OEM arrangement of the period. Today they are sought primarily by vintage computer collectors and enthusiasts restoring period-correct IBM PC and XT systems, as well as anyone who needs to read legacy 360KB diskettes from that era. The half-height form factor replaced the earlier full-height drives and became the dominant configuration through the mid-1980s before 3.5-inch drives took over.
This Mitsumi D503V 360KB 5.25" half-height floppy disk drive has been tested for read and write functions and is in good working condition. The drive shows significant dust accumulation on the top chassis and some surface soiling visible in the photos — cosmetic wear consistent with storage or light use, but mechanically sound. The grey bezel is intact. The Newtronics/Mitsumi label on the underside is present and legible, showing FCC ID GFZ D503V and Made in Japan.
