Applications

The Microtech MZ9711 was designed for laptop users in the late 1990s who needed portable, high-capacity removable storage at a time when 100 MB far exceeded a standard floppy disk. Zip drives of this type were widely used for file backup, data transfer between machines, and storing large files such as desktop publishing documents, graphics, and early digital audio projects. The PCMCIA interface made these drives a natural choice for business travelers and field technicians using laptops without internal Zip drives. Today, units like this are sought by collectors of late-1990s portable computing equipment and by users still maintaining legacy systems — including older Mac laptops and Windows 9x/NT-era notebooks — that relied on the Zip 100 format.
