Applications
The Merlin Legend and Merlin Magix were AT&T's and then Lucent's mid-range key/hybrid PBX systems aimed at small-to-medium businesses, widely deployed throughout the 1990s and into the 2000s before the Avaya brand took over. The 408 GS/LS-ID-MLC module slots into the Merlin Legend or Magix cabinet to expand its line and station capacity, connecting analog central-office outside lines (GS/LS-ID interface) while simultaneously supporting up to 8 MLX-series digital proprietary telephones. This type of module is still sought by businesses and technicians maintaining legacy Merlin Legend and Magix installations, as well as those refurbishing systems for resale. The GS/LS-ID interface supports ground-start, loop-start, and Caller ID signaling on the outside lines, making it compatible with standard PSTN lines.
This Lucent Merlin 408 GS/LS-ID-MLC Module (517D29C) was pulled from a working phone system where it had been in active use. It has not been powered up or tested at our facility. The housing shows light surface soiling and minor age-related discoloration consistent with normal office use — visible in our photos.
