Description

Measurements 560FM RF Standard Signal Generator 25-960 MHz FM CW McGraw-Edison

The Measurements 560FM is a vintage RF Standard Signal Generator covering 25 to 960 MHz across multiple selectable frequency bands, with FM and CW modulation capability. Made by Measurements Corporation of Boonton, New Jersey — a McGraw-Edison company — it is a classic mid-20th-century laboratory signal source built to the rigorous standards of professional RF test equipment. The front panel features a KC Deviation meter, a calibrated microvolt output attenuator, a large frequency tuning dial, a band selector switch, and external modulation input jacks.

Applications

Standard signal generators like the Measurements 560FM are used in RF laboratory and service bench work to provide a stable, calibrated signal source at a known frequency and output level. They are used for alignment and calibration of radio receivers, transmitters, and RF amplifiers — injecting a known signal to tune IF stages, check sensitivity, align discriminators, and verify frequency response across a band. This type of instrument was standard equipment in broadcast, military, and industrial RF labs from the 1950s through the 1970s, when instruments like the 560FM were widely used alongside spectrum analyzers and field-strength meters. Today, surviving examples are sought by vintage radio restorers, ham radio operators, and collectors of classic test equipment for receiver alignment work on vintage AM, FM, and communications receivers.

Condition: Used
This Measurements 560FM RF Standard Signal Generator powers on and the front panel lights up, confirming it receives power. We were not able to fully test its RF output or calibration at our facility. The black metal carry case shows surface wear and scuffing consistent with age and use, and the front panel controls, dials, and jacks appear intact. The removable cover lid is present and included.
