The Maxtor D540X-4K is a 20GB 3.5-inch internal hard drive from Maxtor's DiamondMax series, using the parallel ATA (PATA/IDE) interface with ATA-133 support. It connects via the standard 40-pin IDE ribbon cable and 4-pin Molex power connector found on desktop motherboards and power supplies of its era. This drive has been tested, formatted, and wiped at our facility and is in good working condition.

Applications

The Maxtor DiamondMax D540X series was a mainstream desktop hard drive line produced in the early-to-mid 2000s, targeting home and office desktop PCs using the then-standard IDE/PATA interface. ATA-133 (Ultra DMA Mode 6) was the final and fastest iteration of the parallel ATA standard before the industry transitioned to Serial ATA (SATA). These drives are compatible with any desktop or tower PC motherboard featuring an IDE controller — common in systems from roughly 1999 through 2006. Today they are used for retro PC builds, legacy system repairs, data recovery work, and replacement drives in older industrial or embedded systems that still rely on PATA storage.

This Maxtor D540X-4K 20GB 3.5" IDE hard drive has been tested, formatted, and wiped at our facility and is in good working condition. All previous data has been securely erased. The drive shows normal wear consistent with previous use — the top label has a void sticker and there are minor scuffs on the metal casing, but no dents or damage affecting function.
