Applications
Mid-to-late 1990s IDE hard drives like the Maxtor 82400D4 were the standard internal storage option for desktop PCs and workstations of the era, and were commonly used in Compaq Deskpro, Presario, and ProLiant desktop systems. ATA/IDE (also called PATA) was the dominant desktop storage interface from the early 1990s through the mid-2000s, before SATA superseded it. Drives in this capacity range are still sought today for maintaining legacy Compaq and IBM-compatible systems, retro computing builds, embedded industrial controllers, and older CNC or point-of-sale machines that require a specific IDE drive to match original firmware or partition geometry. The 2.4 GB capacity is also appropriate for vintage operating systems such as Windows 95, Windows 98, and MS-DOS that have partition-size limitations. This drive was manufactured in August 1997 and is representative of the late Diamond/DiamondMax generation of Maxtor IDE drives.

Cosmetically it shows normal light wear consistent with prior use. The Compaq spare label (296679-001) is intact on the top of the drive.
