Applications
The DiamondMax Plus 40 series was Maxtor's mainstream high-performance desktop drive line at the turn of the millennium, targeting home PCs and workstations running Windows 98, Windows ME, and Windows 2000. IDE (PATA) was the dominant internal storage interface of the era, supported natively on virtually every desktop motherboard with an ATA/33 or ATA/66 controller from the late 1990s through the mid-2000s. A 10GB drive of this generation is well-suited for vintage PC builds, retro gaming rigs, period-correct system restorations, and legacy industrial or embedded systems that require a specific IDE drive to match original hardware. It also sees use as a secondary storage drive in older machines where a modern SATA drive cannot be used without an adapter.
