Applications
The Lumenis UltraPulse Encore-OR is a multi-specialty CO2 surgical laser platform used in dermatology and plastic surgery for ablative skin resurfacing — treating wrinkles, scars, and photoaged skin — as well as in ENT, gynecology, neurosurgery, and general surgery for soft tissue cutting, ablation, and coagulation. CO2 lasers at the 10,600 nm wavelength are strongly absorbed by tissue water, allowing precise layer-by-layer removal of skin or soft tissue with controlled thermal spread. The UltraPulse delivery mode fires high-peak-power pulses faster than tissue can thermally respond, reducing collateral damage compared to earlier continuous-wave CO2 systems — this was the core advance that made ablative CO2 resurfacing a clinical standard in the 1990s and 2000s. The SurgiTouch scanning handpiece automates spot placement in a defined pattern, replacing manual passes with consistent computer-controlled delivery.
