Applications
The MLX-28D was designed as a mid-to-high-capacity desktop phone for Lucent's DEFINITY Generic 1, Generic 3, and MERLIN MAGIX PBX platforms, which were widely deployed in business offices throughout the 1990s and into the 2000s. The "28D" designation indicates 28 programmable buttons plus a display — suited for receptionists, managers, and power users who needed direct access to many extensions or features. These phones use the proprietary MLX digital line protocol and connect via a single modular cable to an MLX port on the PBX; they do not work as standalone analog phones. Avaya acquired Lucent's enterprise communications division and continued supporting these systems, so the MLX-28D also appears in Avaya DEFINITY and MERLIN MAGIX environments. Replacement and expansion units remain in demand for businesses still running these legacy PBX systems.
This Lucent MLX-28D digital display office phone has been pulled from a working office environment where it was previously in use. It has been visually inspected and appears to be in good used condition. The white housing shows light surface wear consistent with typical office use. The handset and coiled cord are included and appear intact. The 28 programmable buttons, soft keys, and dial pad are all present and show no obvious damage.
