Description

Logitech ML38 MouseMan Serial Three Button Mouse 811187-00 DB9 RS-232

The Logitech ML38 MouseMan Serial Version is a three-button serial mouse connecting via a DB9 (9-pin RS-232) interface. Part of Logitech's popular MouseMan line, the ML38 was designed for use with IBM PC-compatible systems equipped with a standard serial COM port. The beige housing follows the ergonomic asymmetric form factor of the MouseMan series, and the bottom label confirms manufacture in Ireland along with an FCC ID of DZLMML38.

Applications

Serial mice like the Logitech ML38 were the standard pointing device for IBM PC/XT/AT-class and early 486/Pentium-era systems from the late 1980s through the mid-1990s, before PS/2 and USB ports became universal. They connect to the PC's COM1 or COM2 serial port and are compatible with DOS, Windows 3.x, and Windows 9x environments. The MouseMan line was Logitech's flagship ergonomic consumer mouse of that era and is still sought after today for maintaining vintage DOS gaming rigs, legacy industrial workstations, and early Windows systems that require a serial pointing device. Serial mice also remain useful with modern systems when paired with a DB9-to-USB serial adapter.
