Applications

The Logitech M-CE15 is a serial ball mouse from the late 1980s to early 1990s era of IBM PC-compatible computing, when the 9-pin RS-232 serial port was the standard mouse interface before PS/2 and USB ports became dominant. Serial mice like the M-CE15 were used with DOS-based applications (such as WordPerfect, Lotus 1-2-3, and early CAD programs) as well as early graphical environments including Windows 3.0, 3.1, and Windows for Workgroups. The Logitech serial protocol was broadly supported and drivers were commonly bundled with software or operating systems of the period. Today these mice are primarily sought by retrocomputing enthusiasts restoring period-correct IBM XT, AT, and 286/386/486-class systems, as well as vintage PC collectors and operators of legacy DOS-based industrial or point-of-sale equipment that requires a 9-pin serial input device.
