Applications

The WPC11 was one of Linksys's early consumer 802.11b wireless adapters, introduced in the late 1990s to early 2000s when 802.11b was the dominant Wi-Fi standard. It is designed for laptops running Windows 98, Me, 2000, or XP that have a free PCMCIA slot but lack integrated wireless networking. Today these cards are primarily used to restore or extend wireless capability to legacy laptops, vintage computing setups, and older industrial or point-of-sale terminals that rely on PCMCIA expansion. Compatible with any 802.11b or backward-compatible 802.11g/n access point operating in 2.4 GHz legacy mode. Note that 802.11b is a first-generation Wi-Fi standard and is not compatible with modern 802.11ac or 802.11ax (Wi-Fi 5/6) networks without legacy mode enabled on the access point.
