The EW20HUB dates from the mid-to-late 1990s, the era when 10Base-T over unshielded twisted pair was the dominant small-office and workgroup networking standard. Hubs like this one were the standard way to connect a small number of PCs, printers, and servers before managed switches became affordable. The BNC port allowed connection to legacy 10Base-2 coaxial (thinnet) segments, making this unit useful as a bridge between older coax-wired segments and newer RJ45 runs — a common requirement during the transition away from coaxial Ethernet in the late 1990s. Today these hubs are primarily sought for legacy network environments, retro computing setups, period-correct lab reconstructions, and vintage networking demonstrations. Because all ports share a single 10 Mbps collision domain, throughput per device drops with more active nodes, which is typical of hub architecture as opposed to switched networking.
This Linksys EW20HUB Ethernet 20-Port Workgroup Hub has been inspected and appears to be in good used condition. It was pulled from a working environment where it was previously in use.
