Applications
The Leybold Trivac D series is a long-established line of compact oil-sealed rotary vane pumps widely used as roughing and backing pumps in laboratory and light industrial vacuum systems. The dual-stage design allows the D8B to reach deeper ultimate pressures than a single-stage pump of comparable displacement — making it suitable for applications that require pressures in the 10⁻³ to 10⁻⁴ mbar range. Typical uses include backing turbomolecular pumps and diffusion pumps, vacuum coating and thin-film deposition systems, freeze drying (lyophilization), vacuum ovens and furnaces, analytical instrumentation, and general laboratory vacuum service. The gasballast feature allows the pump to handle water vapor and other condensable gases without contaminating the oil, which is especially useful in drying and distillation applications. The Trivac D8B has been a standard workhorse pump in semiconductor research, surface science, and materials processing labs for decades.
This Leybold Trivac D8B dual stage rotary vane vacuum pump has been inspected and photographed. The pump body and motor show general use wear consistent with lab or industrial service — the white pump housing has marks, scuffs, and handwritten notations on the top, and the base plate shows paint wear and surface oxidation. The Marathon Electric motor body has some paint weathering and the lead wires are bare/stripped at the end rather than terminated with a connector. The oil sight glass is visible on the front panel and shows oil present. The pump has not been powered up or tested at our facility, but it was pulled from a working environment where it was previously in use.
